Life Cycle Printables

Frog Life Cycle Printables

Learning about the frog life cycle provides you with a fantastic opportunity to take your students out for a field trip.  Homeschoolers LOVE field trips just as much as students in a standard classroom setting.  Early spring is a great time to visit a local pond or wetlands to go listen to the frogs croaking.  If you have a net and a tank you might go tadpole hunting to bring a little learning back to your classroom.  Follow-up with these free Frog life cycle printables:

Butterfly Life Cycle Printables

Learning about butterflies might be my student’s favorite lesson of the entire year.  Butterflies are not only beautiful, but they partake in such dramatic developmental transitions during that students can’t help but be engaged.  Every year we order caterpillars for our live butterfly garden so children can see the magic happen right before their eyes.  It is so much fun to watch the caterpillars as they spin their cocoons, and then later when they emerge as adult butterflies.  My kiddos release them in our yard and we’ve seen the same painted lady butterflies return in subsequent years, which has led to many thoughtful discussions.

Life Cycle Printables

Learning about life cycles can be such a fun unit for your Kindergarten classroom.  Students of all ages are amazed to learn that animals develop and change, sometimes into completely different looking creatures all together!  There are many fantastic, hands-on elements you can include in your lesson plan. For example, try adding a live butterfly garden or a tadpole to frog development kit to your classroom.  This would provide a strong engagement rate when students can watch as the little critters reach each stage in development.  We’ve done butterflies every year, releasing them after they emerge from their chrysalis.
